Coinbase's current help article refers to the browser product as the Base browser extension. Use the official guide to reach the store listing, since search results and lookalike extension pages can be misleading.

Before installation

Read the latest steps in Coinbase Help's setup guide. It describes installing through the Chrome Web Store and using Chrome or Brave. Availability and instructions may change, so check the guide for your browser before continuing.

Create a new wallet

  1. Install the extension using the store link in Coinbase Help.
  2. Choose the option to create a new wallet and follow the on-screen prompts.
  3. Save the recovery phrase privately and verify that you have backed it up before moving on.
  4. Create the local password requested by the setup flow and store it securely.

The exact labels can change. Never share your recovery phrase with a person, support agent, website, or form. Coinbase says it cannot recover the phrase for you.

Import a wallet you already use

The official guide describes an import flow for an existing wallet, including recovery phrase and supported Ledger options. Choose an import method only if you understand which wallet it accesses and have a secure backup. Importing a recovery phrase into a new extension gives that extension access to the wallet, so use only software obtained through the official route.

Take a moment to verify

Before connecting to a dapp, check the full website address and review the permissions requested. A wallet connection can reveal public onchain information associated with your address. A connection alone is not a reason to reveal a recovery phrase or approve a transaction you do not understand.

This independent guide is for general education. Follow Coinbase's current instructions if its setup flow has changed.
