If you are looking for the Coinbase Wallet browser extension, you may see a different name in current help materials: Coinbase's setup guide calls it the Base browser extension. Product names can change, so use the official Coinbase Help page as your source of truth before you install anything.
What a browser wallet extension does
A browser extension adds wallet controls to a desktop browser. Coinbase's guide describes using the extension with a regular browser to connect to decentralized apps (dapps), review wallet activity, and approve actions from the browser. The extension is a self-custody wallet experience: protect the credentials that control it as carefully as you would protect access to the assets themselves.
When a wallet connects to a dapp, the site may be able to see the wallet's public address and publicly available onchain information, such as balances and transaction history. That is different from handing over your recovery phrase. A connection request should never require you to disclose that phrase.
What to check before you begin
- Open Coinbase Help directly and follow its link to the browser extension store listing.
- Check the publisher and the address bar before installing or entering wallet details.
- Decide whether you are creating a wallet or importing one you already control.
- Keep your recovery phrase private. Anyone who gets it may be able to access the wallet.
